Patrick Haslam started training in Lambourn 30 years ago. He moved to Newmarket in 1978 where he trained successfully until moving to Middleham in 1991. During that time he has trained nearly 750 winners including the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket twice, the Victoria Cup at Ascot, and the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, as well as several winners in France.

In 1995 he had great success with Pipe Major who was 4th in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, and in the Dante Stakes at York, and won the Van Geest Criterion Stakes, Group III.

In 2001 he had 40 winners with prize money of £165,000 and a NH strike rate of 24%.
