ROGER INGRAM

In 1966, 16 years of age, the son of a coalminer, Roger decided that his small frame of 7st 7 would not be suited to a career in the coal mines of South Wales. Instead he followed his childhood antics of racing wild welsh mountain ponies bare back on the fields behind the mines. He packed his bags and ended up on the doortsteps of Swift of Lorretta Lodge, Epsom. to fulfil his dreams of becoming a Jockey or Trainer.

Roger finally fulfilled his life long ambition of becoming a Trainer, and in 1990 armed with a small moderate string of horses saw his return to Epsom. He has since sent out over 150 winners from a handful of horses and an impressive annual strike rate of between 10 – 17%.

Roger prides himself on his hands on, personal approach to his horses, Roger has proved time again that cheaply purchased horses can grow in his care. Boule D’or purchased at the Breeze-up Sales for only 10,000 went on to win 5 races in his care winning two £ 60,000 pound races in Dubai.

WENDOVER STABLES – Roger took over the reins at Wendover in 1992 , the stables are situated on the doorstep of the Downs with magnificent views of the Epsom Grandstand, and London, which by train is only 30 mins away, this gives owners the opportunity to visit early morning gallops have breakfast and still be back at their office before 9.am.The Epsom training facilities are of the highest standard, and boasts two new all-weather surfaces, a 9f wax track and over 85 miles of grass and all-weather surfaces.

Roger operates his small yard assisted by his wife Sharon, and his dedicated team of staff, Joe, Billy, Kelly,Maja and Caroline who will always be ready to show off their horses to owners and make them a cup of coffee to ensure there visit to Wendover is always welcoming.
