NICK LITTMODEN SINCE 1994, when Nick Littmoden first took out a trainer’s licence, he has moved only in one direction – upwards. Starting out with just three horses under his care, he has gone on to achieve Royal Ascot glory, other Pattern race successes and numerous victories in lucrative handicaps. As for that horses in training figure, of the 64 boxes at his Southgate Stables’ base most are full for the 2005 campaign. Before starting out on his own as a trainer, Nick built up a good understanding of the profession while serving as assistant to Jenny Pitman and before that as pupil assistant to the late Mick Masson. “From the moment I found racehorse training as a 19-year-old, I’ve never wanted to do anything else. That was it – I was hooked,” says Nick.
