John Berry
Originally from the Scottish Borders, John Berry grew up on horseback and has been training in Newmarket since 1995, having previously been assistant trainer to Luca Cumani. He has also worked for Andy Turnell and at Woodditton Stud.
During a short-lived career as an amateur jumps jockey, he rode one winner over fences, notably leading home Richard Dunwoody and Venetia Williams! John still rides out every day and will ride every horse in the string at some stage during each week.
Our stable stars have included Largesse, Il Principe, Jack Dawson, Brief Goodbye and Benedict – the winners of 38 races between them.
Largesse now stands at stud for his owners Henry and Rosemary Moszkowicz and John has trained a number of his offspring, including Picot de Say, La Gessa and By Storm, all of whom have won for the stable.
A keen journalist, John writes a weekly international racing column for Australia’s leading racing paper Winning Post, and is a regular contributor to The Glasgow Herald and Thoroughbred Internet.
John and his wife Emma run a small, friendly stable of around 20 horses in the heart of racing’s headquarters and welcome owners and visitors to the yard. Beverley House Stables is ideally situated to enjoy the superb facilities the town has to offer, including access to more than 100 miles of all-weather and grass gallops on Newmarket Heath.
